The India CBAM verification gap: no accredited body yet
As of October 2026 no Indian conformity-assessment body is yet recognised for EU CBAM verification. Here's what Indian exporters and EU importers should know.

The gap
As of October 2026, no Indian conformity-assessment body is yet recognised for EU CBAM verification. The practical result: Indian installations whose data is used as “actual values” in an EU declaration need to be verified by an EU-accredited verifier, which today means a European firm travelling to India.
Who’s working on it
- NABCB (National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies) has signalled intent.
- Several Indian verification bodies have begun the EU accreditation process.
- Timing on the first Indian body getting recognised is not yet public.
What that means in practice
For 2026 imports (filed September 2027):
- Importers should assume EU-based verifiers travelling to India.
- Site visits are required in year one for each installation.
- Cluster batching is the practical cost control — group visits in Ludhiana, Rajkot etc. so travel cost is split.
What CBAMWorks is doing
- Partnering with EU-accredited verifiers who agree to batch visits by cluster.
- Preparing data in verifier-ready format: every number linked to its bill, with a full edit history.
- Running cluster site-visit calendars.
