Rajkot (Gujarat) is India’s largest casting and auto-parts cluster. Not every Rajkot foundry export is in CBAM scope today. Cast articles of iron or steel under CN 7325 are not in Annex I (they appear in the Commission’s 2025 downstream-extension proposal, which isn’t law today). CN 7326 (other articles of iron or steel), and chapter 72 semi-finished and long products, are in scope. Machined auto parts usually fall into chapter 84 or 87 and are out of scope. Check your 8-digit CN code before collecting data.
What’s actually in CBAM scope for Rajkot
| Product family | Typical CN | In Annex I? |
|---|---|---|
| Cast articles of iron / steel (castings sold as castings) | 7325 | No |
| Articles of iron / steel (fabricated / machined assemblies) | 7326 | Yes |
| Semi-finished steel (billets, ingots) | 7207 | Yes |
| Pipe fittings forged from billet | 7307 | Yes |
| Machined auto parts (engine components, pump shafts) | 84xx / 87xx | No |
A castings house that sells as 7325 today is not in CBAM scope. A machining shop that reclassifies as 7326 (an “article of iron or steel”) is. The CBAM boundary runs through this cluster at the 8-digit level, not the product-family level.
What EU buyers need, when you are in scope
- 12 months of fuel bills by type: natural gas, LPG, furnace oil, diesel. Most Rajkot foundries use natural gas as the primary melting fuel for induction and cupola furnaces.
- 12 months of electricity bills (used but not counted in CBAM steel direct scope — your buyer may still ask).
- Production tonnes per 8-digit CN code.
- Metal input mix: pig iron, scrap steel, foundry returns — the split matters for the mass balance.
- A short monitoring plan — we have a template.
Production routes we see
- Induction furnace from steel scrap + pig iron.
- Cupola furnace (coke-fired) — more coal-intensive, matters for direct emissions.
- Arc furnace for larger steel castings.
In your language
- Supplier form: English, हिंदी, ગુજરાતી.
- WhatsApp support: all three languages.
- Printable summary PDF: your buyer, your production team and your verifier can all read the same document.

Verifier site visits in Rajkot
Rajkot’s foundry cluster is a candidate for cluster-batched verification: EU-accredited verifiers can visit several installations in one trip, so the per-foundry travel cost falls. Join the pilot by emailing hello@cbamworks.com or asking on WhatsApp.
